Frank dominates the night and crowns the season.

So the MDPL brings season 5 to a close with a 2-table, max'd out 20-man event... and a close race for the season title on the line in "rookies vs. veterans" night… a few usual veteran suspects were missing which dropped the ideal ratio below 50/50, but we did welcome some true MDPL rookies to the white shirt crew, who all enjoyed their free show-em chips and bounty-free play on this evening... including Raymond Chow and Arthur Chan, both faring respectably making it to the final table and showing up a few veterans in the process... meanwhile, some black-shirted vets in the mix would not go quietly into the night as Simon Wong and Andrew Tilston both advanced to the upper echelon with Andrew in particular making some dramatic plays and huge chip swings, only to fall short on the bubble in the 5-spot (while the losers' lounge cash game was in full swing by this time).
The parallel backstory was the 4-horse race of Fung, Lai, Quan and Riccardi all vying for the series overall championship, yet our season leader Vince Fung flamed out (relatively) early in 9th spot, while Jason Lai narrowly made the ITM cut-line for a 4th place finish and a momentary (giddy) lead atop the series standings... but it was Jack Wong and Peter Choi, both MDPL veterans by any other measuring stick (except in tonight's criteria), who whittled their way craftily into 2nd and 3rd ITM positions for a healthy payday and late appearances on the season leaderboard… and after all the dust settled, it was none other than the co-MDHL GM, Frank Riccardi, mowing down a ridiculous nine players tonight (including the final five!) on the way to a whopping $420 victory (including 4-heads of bounty cash) and leap frogging all the way from fourth position in the standings to a fairy tale finish as season leader and a photo opp with the MDPL holy grail itself. Stunning.
As usual, thanks to all for food and drink contributions, complimentary top-ups to to the host, and in particular (tonight), to sage veterans Vince and Ian for lending their extra poker props to make the evening run smooth. Season 5 (and a mind-blowing 63rd poker night) is officially in the books and we look to resume season 6 in the fall. Enjoy your summer everyone.
