Likity Split 11 vs. Dirty Dogs 9 The Split hold on for the series win! Friday, June 20, 2003
And so the final game of the Spring 2003 series kicked off with high anticipation
from both sides. Would the Dirty Dogs complete a four game win streak to tie the
series, or would Likity Split pull out a much-need victory to ice the series
title? Pre-game antics rolled out as Split's captain Ron "too sick to play but not
to come out with skates in hand" Pong opts out of the lineup, only to be replaced
with newbie (and highly touted) Ryan "born ready and definitely" Abel. With their
newbie super sub pulling the moves and scoring left right and center (and even
backhanding the puck up into that lil space inside the crossbar), it appeared
Likity Split could ride to victory building a solid lead throughout.
The Dogs own captain Kenny "I'll be rooting for you guys... from my camp
site" Chiu was out of the lineup with no sub in replacement so the 'Dogs fended
with three D and some shuffling players in mid-game. And not like Likity Split
needed the chances, but they were awarded two powerplays, keeping the Dogs back on
their heels. It seemed all but lost when Split's F Kevin "I gots the moves, just
like my girlfriend used to say" Ma scores two goals on the same shift using the
same big league breakaway move to extend the lead.
And into the late stages down 10-5, Dogs D Tyson "this D is goin coast to coast
baby!" Carvell scores on a sweet rush capped off by a sweeter backhander, which
sparked a mild comeback. One goal, then another, then another, and all of a sudden
with a Stan "the full moon must be out when I score" Quan power-play goal, the Dogs
were down by only one goal with Likity Split back on their own heels! Could it be?
Nada. Alas, the storybook ending was over as spark plug F Mike "bad shoulder, but
good enough to score" Nguyen caps off his hat trick with an insurance goal
uncontested at the corner of the net for Team Split. No tie series, no first ever
shootout, no glory for the Dogs... and so Team Likity Split caps the series six
games to four!
MDHL 3 Stars:
3. Kevin Ma... he could take his show on the road with that sweet backhand deke.
2. Mike Nguyen... hat trick, bum shoulder and hard work.
1. Ryan Abel... all those moves and just cause to ban ringer subs in the final game
of the series! |
