2003 SUMMER SERIES: GAME #9 REVIEW

Team Angle 9 vs. Viet Cong Express 7
Best tilt of the summer and especially sweet for Team Angle...

Friday, September 12, 2003

Whadda game. Another classic. A rootin tootin shootin affair... a ring a ding dong dandy... okay, you get the picture. Both teams playing nine aside and all the pressure on Team Angle to break the losing streak... and they delivered riding on rumours of a guaranteed victory heard in the dressing room... maybe the luck of a playing in a new rink (Coliseum) or maybe it was just plain old desperate hockey... either way, Team Angle captain Allen Leung leads his team to victory while scoring the game tying goal on a sweet backhand rush... didn't look like it 'twas to be as the VC Express came out flying riding on Ernie Ma's five goal outburst... and the team offense would have been more had LW Tyson Carvell not missed the net a few dozen times with those deadly (but inaccurate) slap shots... VC goalie Ken Takeda was good and lucky (and lucky and good) having the iron save his booty on a few occasions... back and forth all night long on a tough, gritty but overall clean effort from both sides...

Sean Oye played a dominating yet quiet game from the blueline while finally Team Angle's Fraser Stampvincent scores the game-winner on yet another big league play with team-mate Travis Wong getting the insurance in the dying moments... the win overshadowed the strong play by rare-drop-in Anthony Pham turning in a stellar outing on D... and with the loss ends the personal win streak (and reigning MDHL effort) by Ernie Ma capping his victories at a whopping eight games! Next week wraps up the series with Team Angle looking to tie the season while the VC Express look to seal the victory!

MHDL 3 Stars:

3. Ernie Ma... five in a losing effort ain't too shabby.
2. Allen Leung... get on his back, he's leading the way to victory.
1. Fraser Stampvincent... the game winner in a tight game, what a man!
