Western Conference 13 vs. Eastern Conference 5 The West lay the boots… Friday, October 25, 2002
And after two relatively close matchups to start the season, the floodgates
are seemingly opening as the West lays a sound drubbing on the East in a
rout. Not just on the scoresheet, the West were also dishing out the game's
only two penalties thanks to Terry "the hook" Wong and Allen "the trip"
Leung. On the latter call, West Captain Jason Lai causes mild confusion by
attempting to stop the play with the East working hard and apparently
scoring under the perception of a delayed penalty situation. Oops. Not to
mention the East giving up a subsequent shorthanded goal (by the same jerk
that caused the original confusion) and it was a downhill slide from that
point on. While the East did manage a PP goal on their first opportunity,
the later goals from the West poured in unanswered and East goalie Samson
Chow was feeling the sting of rubber no doubt. In other developments, East
assistant Captain, Stan Quan was absent from the lineup (knitting baby boots
or something constructive like that) instead dressing replacement Sherman
Woo in his first game of the season for the MDHL. No rust from the
"Shermantor" as he turns in a solid outing and makes some good decisions at
the blueline. Newly appointed East assistant, Jackson Chiu did little to
rally his troops but looked pretty wearing the "A" nonetheless. The West
has yet to field their original regular lineup as Clark "here's my cheque,
see you in 10 weeks" Lim has missed all 3 games to date.
MDHL 3 Stars:
3. Michael Nguyen... spark plug scores a nice goal and delivers a Matt
Cooke-like effort for Team East in a losing cause.
2. Jason Lai... hat-trick including a short-handed goal and some
controversial calls to screw the enemy.
1. Mike Smith... solid between the pipes when he had to be and gets the win
for the West. |
