The crazy hat / headgear theme made its annual rotation tonight yet it was a decidedly sad participation rate (and not even a single coronavirus mask in sight) but props go to the two (of four) hat wearers for finishing in the money, so perhaps the poker gods were sending them some extra love (or luck) for their efforts. Meanwhile, great to see the born-again return of Nigel Williamson, who did not fare as well as hoped (and hence coined this maddening game with a word that begins with a C), but did get to leave with a parting gift for his young hockey playing daughter. The first-out honour, however, went to Warren Cheng who had been running so hot for many games past and boasted a ridiculous ITM winning percentage heading in, but bowed out rather quickly and disappeared into the night soon thereafter too.
As the rest of the peeps fell by the wayside, including the host with his hang-on-and-pray strategy, to a grateful 3rd place finish, it was Quincy Ko vs. Walt Woo in a marathon heads-up final battle (for nearly an hour) including an unproductive (but cordial) chop-the-pot discussion, but after a few more key hands, Quincy came from behind to secure the victory (including the coveted $10 bounty earlier on). Everyone was tired and an arm wrestle-off was the next best option, but huge thanks to that poker godfather, Ian Chang who joined us to the bitter end and shuffled a few hundred hands to assist the process.
