Team Anthony 21 vs. Team Ron 13 Friday, December 5, 2003
After a scintillating series to-date with close games (all within 3 goals or less) the MDHL is finally dealt a lopsided game, at the hands of a good ol fashioned boot kicking... Team Ron takes it in the teeth thanks to Team Anthony's 20+ goal effort (ironically, sans Anthony himself, fighting the flu and inserting his body double, Jon Low in his place)... Travis Wong leads the way to victory carrying his team on his back on too many goals and many a hard-driving effort to the net... rumours were that he was flirting with the MDHL goal scoring record (for one game) but he flatly denied those claims being the consumate team player... no matter, since his efforts along with Chris Archibald's equally stellar seven-goal effort were more than enough to trounce Team Ron, even sporting two stellar subs in Raymon Hsiao and Derek Lowe...
It was a tragic debut for the youngest player ever to play in the MDHL as Calvin Cheng made his first appearance in net at the tender age of twelve for Team Ron... a solid start and some great technique but soon came unraveled mid-game with a still-can't-believe-it shift where four goals managed to get by on successive face off drops... not to fault the goalie (okay, maybe just a few) but the overall team effort in front of him was inadequate and mistake-laden... on a positive note, newly traded Dave Cheung turns in his first (official, and not called back like the phantom one from a few weeks ago) goal along with a bushelful of chances in a losing cause... otherwise it was pretty much a drubbing with nothing going the way of Team Ron... including getting jobbed on a miscalled "hand pass" negating a breakaway as well as getting caught (but not penalized) on a too-many-men situation with the D-corps mixing up their arithemetic... yikes, what a forgettable game on a competitive level but at least a handful of players sure padded their goal totals... 'til next week...
MDHL 3 Stars:
3. Allen Leung... six dingers in a losing cause.
2. Chris Archibald... seven dingers in a winning cause.
1. Travis Wong... at least seven and a Messier (pre-Canucks) caliber performance in the win. |
