2004 WINTER SERIES: GAME #5 REVIEW

Team Carter (Black) 14 vs. Team Jagr (White) 9
Friday, February 20, 2004

The first regulation win of the series for Team Carter and a well deserved one at that... hungry from the get-go, Captain Ron Pong and crew put their foot on the gas and didn't let up until building a fat 7-1 lead... still another sub parade as regulars Brian Kindrachuk, Chris Archibald, Fraser Stampvincent, Jason Chu were subbed out along with an uncharacteristic no-show by rookie Derek Lowe... meanwhile rookie sub Randy Kamiya starts his second in as many games and was happy to be on the winning end this time... the MDHL welcomed the sub debut of goalie Will Tong who got his feet wet behind an eight-goal outburst by Anthony Chang flirting with his (shared) all-time goals per game record... which is 10 for those trivia buffs out there...

Team Jagr may have been riding too high on their winning ways as of late as their defensive game was lacking with forwards admittedly only going *forward* and only three defencemen to get the job done... and with a mountainous lead to overcome, it didn't help matters on a disallowed "off-the-skate" goal as debated by both teams' captains... in any case, Team Carter desperately needed the win and a boost to their psyche and on this night their offense was reignited... Gon Yip puts an exclamation point on the win with a surprisingly sweet backhand deflection into the top shelf... all in a day's work, eh?

MDHL 3 Stars:
3. Travis Wong... his team lost, but he remains a potent offensive weapon all series long.
2. Sean Oye... back to his dominating self, when he's in the lineup that is.
1. Anthony Chang... found the net in a big way (heck, doubling up on D. Sedin's puny 4 goal effort)
