Team Carter 8 vs. Team Jagr 7 OT Friday, February 27, 2004
Mid point of the series and Team Carter looks to bounce back on the heels of a trade... Travis Wong brings his offensive skills to the underdogs while speedy Albert Chang joins the series leading Team Jagr... both teams were eager to test out the new lineups, but as per usual, a few subs were thrown into the mix... Aaron Oye keeps up an impressive string of sub appearances but likely not soon to surpass his brother's all-time-games-played numbers... Lawrence Lau was promoted to the A role in place of oft-missing Chris Archibald as of late... and so the game kicked off with Team Carter's split member Jeff Ho joining a decent line with Gon Yip and Jason Lai to make for some good chemistry and about half the team's offense including a rather flukely (but all planned) goal from behind the goal line...
Team Jagr started slow but stayed within striking distance as the game progressed getting some rare offense from Stan Quan and a two goal explosion... D Derek Lowe added some dangerous rushes from the blue line to keep the game within reach with the help of a fluke Allen Leung goal on another (all planned) deflection off a Team Carter D man... ultimately a clutch performance from said captain Allen Leung and his late goal heroics tied the game with seconds left to send it to sudden death OT...
OT? Again? Yep, the second time this series and it was an early goal that ended it (and with controversy no doubt) as Dominique Kwong plays hero batting in the loose biscuit while Gon Yip is swimming in the goal crease!... Captains are unable to resolve the issue with no time on the clock (and the ice man cometh) so the goal stands and Team Carter escapes with their 2nd OT win of the series... looks like the trades have accomplished an equalizing effect (at least on this night) so 'til next game...
MDHL 3 Stars:
2. Stan Quan... two goals seemingly out of nowhere to give his team a chance.
2. Allen Leung... maturing into the studly captain we all knew he could be!
1. Dom Kwong... quiet for most of the game, but plays hero with the OT winner! |
