2004 WINTER SERIES: GAME #9 REVIEW

Team Jagr 12 vs. Team Carter 8
Friday, March 19, 2004

Going in tied at 4 games apiece, each team was fired up to take the series lead and guarantee themselves no worse than a tie for total outcome... oft-injured and sorely missed members Brian Kindachuk and Chris Archibald returned to action while gingerly testing their ailing backs... only three subs in the lineup making for a truer lineup from recent games... play was intense and goals were hard to come by, but both teams fought hard... Team Jagr appeared to have an early edge as they received two power plays... with Albert Chang scoring on the PP with a sweet individual deke... Team Jagr were also awarded a rare penalty shot at the hands of a hey-that-goalie-threw-his-stick call... mild controversy on that one but naturally, the captain's ruling stands... Chris Archibald had the prvilege but was stuffed (hey, did that goalie throw his stick again?)...

In any event, Team Carter persevered to take a lead for most of the game and at 8-5, the TSN turning point may have come when C Jason Lai had to leave the game mid-way to address an urgent call... Team Carter may have been rattled and the lines may have been compromised, or maybe Team Jagr just saved the best for last as they proceeded to pump in SEVEN unanswered goals in just over 10 minutes to blow the game wide open... Fraser Stampvincent and Chris Archibald led the onslaught with more than a few garbage goals from close in... yikes, chalk this one up as one of the major gaffes in league history but one can only guess as we go into the final game with Team Jagr clearly riding the momentum...

MDHL 3 Stars:
3. Anthony Chang... scoring touch still working especially a wicked one-timer from a sharp angle.
2. Chris Archibald... back from injury, not 100% but still made a difference.
1. Mike Smith... alumni turned sub goalie weathers the early storm and shuts the door to secure the win.
