Team Carter 21 vs. Team Jagr 6 Friday, March 26, 2004
Biff! Bam! Oomph! Such were likely the sounds heard from Team Jagr as they took the lumps this game in attempting to seal the series with a sixth win... instead it was Team Carter taking it to them much to everyone's surprise... the pre-game started with peculiarity as sniper Fraser Stampvincent surprisingly was AWOL leaving Team Jagr a man down, while Team Carter fielded a last-minute replacement as Gordon Chan went down to injury during the extended pre-game / family skate... it was a thankful Aaron Oye that showed up on the ice as a ready-made reserve... Travis Wong was present in the stands and also a surprise scratch with part-timer Sean Oye back in replacement... Team Carter's captain Ron Pong invoked the first-ever instance of the new MDHL "goalie option" rule choosing Samson Chow to backstop his team between the pipes...
With the sudden lineup hijinks it looked to be Team Carter's game to lose... things started out close with an early 4-4 tie including more magic and energy from Team Jagr's make shift duo of captain Allen Leung and oft-seen sub Shaine Greig but was soon lost by the wayside as the Team Carter gunners took flight... the Oye/Lai/Chang line was fearsome all night and contributed at least 10 points per man while Gon Yip chipped in his two markers in his season ending appearance... sub Aaron Oye made a difference including a sweet spin-move from his blueline to set himself free on a breakaway goal... even with two disallowed goals by Team Carter, it was still no contest as the waves of attack on sub goalie Kelvin Ho would not let up... even with the 10-goal mercy clause invoked by captain Leung, it was too little way too late at that point as Team Carter cruised to victory to tie the season series at 5 games apiece!
MDHL 3 Stars:
3. Gordon Chan... not on the ice, but played a pivotal role in a last-minute sub situation.
2. Anthony Chang... 1/3 of a most potent line for the night.
1. Sean Oye... return to dominant form and another 1/3 of that potent line. |
