MDPL: POKER S11 DTT EVENT #10 REVIEW (ONLINE EDITION)

Go Big or Go Home
Saturday, April 25, 2020

Waaaaazzzzup. That classic Bud commerical revived during these self-isolation times seemed fitting for our online poker phase, although no Bud beer was spotted in our group ironically. Logistics ran smooth and all 18 got rocking and rolling early on, save for our repeat champ Simon Wong, missing out of the gate, perhaps nerves getting the best of him as he was on the cusp of the mythical 3-peat with a victory tonight (only done once before in our history). Unfortunately, Profesor Si had to rally around a smaller chip stack and a tighter game, falling into 15th place with keeners all around trying to snag that supersized $20 bounty...

Enter the bounty hunter, Mr. CovidOrCoHome11, aka Steve Bridge, who both went big, with the bounty collection and victory, and also stayed home around his early bedtime, just the way he wants it. Who else can enjoy brushing his teeth during a poker break and have his jammies nearby too? A solid win for Steve, prevailing over J-Lai and his once mighty chip stack, who gets the runner-up spot, outlasting the other ITM finishers, OG veterans Vince Fung and Mark Yu (who will be slightly haunted by his inabilty to close out Dr. Fung in three all-in showdowns when leading after the flop). On the other end of the spectrum, Jon Brietkopf falls from grace, from a runner-up finish just last week, to a caboose finish this time (and of course, maxing out his rebuys in the process). With two tables of simultaneous action, Lynn Wilcott bowed out literally seconds after Jon but avoids the picturesque plaque-of-shame in the process.

Other solid performances go to Raymond Chow and Hu Brietkopf, both in early contention with leading chip stacks and many hands played, but fell short of ITM glory tonight. Special thanks to DJ Dharmesh Dass, entertaining (or distracting?) us with texts, videos and screenshares of the Waazup dudes and other questionable content. The match wrapped just under a tidy three hours which is more in line with our original expectations (vs. that 5 hour slugfest from last week), so we shall continue on a 9PM PST start time in the future based on the informal polls from the masses. See you next time!
