MDPL: POKER S11 DTT EVENT #11 REVIEW (ONLINE EDITION)

Bountiful Kinda Night
Saturday, May 2, 2020

Our first ever (online) bounty format kicked off, but even with a bigger starting chip stack ($5K) it was expected to be an early night for some of us. Well, it took all of about 10 minutes for our first victim, the season leader to-date, Dharmesh Dass, thinking his trip Aces (w/ King kicker) was good, but nada against a mighty full house, and thus got kicked out first for his troubles too. Your hapless host was soon to follow within the next few hands, relegating himself to cheerleader status for the duration of the 3+ hours but got to witness some fun action in this no-rebuy format, including brother taking out brother (Hu over Jon) in this no-holds-barred kinda night.

The two tables whittled down to one, casting aside many of the usual regulars and leaving a quieter-than-usual group behind (I think there were crickets heard in the distance) but a modest musical soundtrack from your impromptu DJ host kept things rolling. The assassin-of-the-night honours go to Gerard Tang, powered by his fitting Game of Thrones (Zoom background), nailing an event-high 7 bounties, including the supersized $15 scalp off last event winner, Steve Bridge. Unstoppable.

G crushed it all night long riding a massive chip lead throughout, until meeting heads-up against that sage elder stateman, Lynn Wilcott, who played some cagey, calculated poker to snatch the victory. I guess his self-isolation swimming routine (in the freaking ocean) keeps him in top physical and mental shape for this crazy game. Other finishing honours went to Hu Brietkopf and Quincy Ko, with the latter missing out on taking the overall lead in the standings, only to be leapfrogged by Gerard, who now vaults into second overall.

Standings are now super tight with just $50 separating first through sixth positions, with more than a few weeks of online poker still on tap. Thanks to everyone for playing (and on time too!) and especially to Si for going the distance and joining me in the chaperone role tonight. See you all next time.
