After 9 straight weeks of online poker during this global pandemic, our group has persevered and kept in good spirits with good ol Canadian politeness in check. Heck, there was even apologies for putting in raises too, but no apologies needed for a brilliant worst-to-first Cinderella showing for veteran Norman Chan, winning tonight and going from an 0-for cellar dwelling online record, all the way to erasing his sizeable bankroll deficit. It was a first-ever Zoom meeting group applause moment as he stepped into the ITM spotlight. So touching. Also, a great showing for runner-up Dharmesh Dass, who had a crack at the overall leaderboard but came up short with his otherwise solid second place finish.
Meanwhile, PokerStars released a new software update allowing for some silly animation features with rockets, horseshoes and tissue boxes flying every which way, making for some added entertainment, including the rarely seen double tissue box attack too. Not to be distracted, Vince Fung powered his way to 4th place while collecting the last-event winner bounty, and posed beautifully with his convenient $10 prop bill too.
Hu Brietkopf took the bronze position having the early chip stack lead, but deserves honourable mention as he survived a killer cramp (on a live Zoom meeting no less) yet managed to soldier on through the agony (much to the comedic delight of his onlooking peers). Next time everyone should consider a thorough stretching and hydration routine before signing onto our matches, as the physical toll required is painfully obvious (as poor Hu can attest to, but sadly, no video evidence was saved).
Good times tonight and as the real world is slowly re-opening, the MDPL takes a short hiatus after many consecutive weeks of Saturday night action. Hope everyone gets out(side) at some point and reconnects in person too, but keep it polite willya?
