A Dramatic Season Finale

Summer and the season ending event is finally upon us (for the top nine leaderboard members), but it started on an awkward note, as the PS format was not friendly to seating all 9 finalists at one table (no thanks to the late registration window and computerized seating format), so we rallied around a new plan, thanks in part to Vince Fung, who snapped up the offer on zero notice to claim an impromptu tenth seat to make a tidy set of 5v5 tables to play things out. There was less chatter than usual in the Zoom meeting as concentration was at the forefront, but the build-up was worth it with some crazy hands and a dramatic conclusion in store.
Series runner-up (heading into this event) Quincy Ko, had his sights set on the first overall title, but that dream was dashed early on as he was TKOed and had to settle for the dreaded first-out honours instead. Meanwhile, Professor Simon Wong helped his own cause en route to a solid third place ITM finish while also taking the supersized $20 bounty (off of repeat champ, J-Lau, who misses out on the mythical 3-peat)... but was that enough to hang on for the season title as the series leader heading in? Turned out the only player left that could catch him was Gerard Tang, that silent veteran assassin who slid his way to the final heads-up showdown (taking out Simon by flopping some quads in the process) and needed the victory to snatch a first-time title for himself... up against Walt Woo, he of the 3x runner-up finish this season and playing very well too. G built up a tremendous chip lead, but Walt was up to the challenge and turned the tides to seal the deal for the victory tonight, while also cementing Simon atop the leaderboard for his first season title of his MDPL career!
Congrats to Simon, the ITM finishers, as well as to all the finale participants tonight... and now season 11 is now in the books (including the final 14 events done online during these wacky Covid times). Fun times, with a few bucks won (and lost), and still our MDPL camaradie remains alive and well. Enjoy the off-season, get outside, and stay safe everyone!
