Pandemic Season Opener

Hope everyone had a safe summer and now season 12 officially kicks off, remaining in online mode thanks to the pandemic. Undeterred, we had the usual faces back in the fold but also three rookies making their MDPL debuts: Marisa Guan, Grace Lu, and Kent Polich, all looking to make an impression (latter of which already having skated with the boys of the MDHL).
Unfortunately for Grace, it was not a dream debut... amidst her Zoom video issues and that pesky 2-rebuy limit, she found herself leaking too many chips by the first break and made an early exit but we hope she will find redemption at a future outing! On the other hand Marisa, fresh off her first poker book purchase/read this week, made some aggressive re-raise plays to wrangle her way to a stellar 3rd place finish, surrounded by decade-long MDPL veterans all around (including leap-frogging Simon Wong, our reigning champ from last season who took the bubble spot).
Yes, those cagey vets, picking up from last season, with J-Lau taking on his sensei from yesteryear, Gerard, in a lengthy heads-up showdown. On this night, the student has snatched the pebble from the master, as J-Lau emerges victorious. Quite fitting, since he now has two new mouths to feed (of the canine variety) and could likely use some cash for dog food.
In other news, birthday wishes go out to our sage poker vet, Lynn Wilcott, playing on his actual birthday, but was given a surprise suck-out (and an untimely 17th place finish) by Jonathan, who in turn donated his usual 2 re-buys en route to missing the final table. As a result of the evening, the Mad Dogs Angels Fund has gratefully accepted its first $31 donation thanks to everyone, and Quincy Ko was the first recipient of the newly minted, random 14th place door prize, easing the sting of an earlier exit. Look for us to return on future Saturdays (mostly)... thanks for coming out and congratulations to our ITM finishers.
