Movember to Remember

The annual MDPL Movember initiative moved online during this pandemic, yet we fielded a record 24-player, 3-table turnout to support the cause... all to the tune of $480 raised (thanks to half of the buy-in proceeds) for which Dharmesh and I sincerely thank you! While the event was spiced up with special prizes and random draws, it was also a spicier tournament format with two included re-buys and an accelerated blind duration, but before any virtual cards were in the air, Eric Lau was already a winner as he captured the early bird raffle prize for a complimentary buy-in at a future event.
The initial stanza had the predictable drama of crazy showdowns and triple ups... with quad Ace sightings as well as a straight flush too and when the first member packed it in, it was none other than Jonathan Brietkopf, who made good on his familiar 2 re-buy quota. Otherwise, those quicker blind levels made short work of the bulk of the field but Ray Chiang was a gleeful 11th place finisher taking the random-finish $10 door prize for this troubles.
Meanwhile, a few notables outwitted the rest, including the stellar debut from newcomer James Sy, taking 3rd place along with the $10 bounty off last event champ (and co-host) Dharmesh... not a bad haul at all. MDHL co-GM Frank Riccardi finished strong right behind him in 4th spot winning oh so many all-in showdowns along the way and Jeff Yu hung in there from his Toronto EST time zone to take 5th (and a whopping $1 net profit). Those cagey MDPL vets, Simon Wong and Vince Fung squared off on the big stage heads-up with over $140K playchips between them... but the professor got the best of the doctor on this night and moved atop the overall leaderboard standings too.
Of course on this particular occasion, the real winner was the Movember effort and we thank everyone for taking part in this unique event. Until next time... do get those prostates checked and reach out to your fellow Mo Bros if you need support too!
