2005 SPRING SERIES: GAME #5 REVIEW

Team Feast 12 vs. Team Beast 8
Friday, May 6, 2005

It didn't take more than a few minutes before Team Feast got back to business putting the numbers up on the score board. Ace forward Anthony Chang or 'skate' and speedster Jason Lai both finished with five goals each. Despite having to use a backup goalie and seeing their team captain leave less than halfway through the game, Team Feast was able to pull out another win by a score of 12 to 8.

When asked what had happened, mobile defenseman captain Derek Lowe said that a "rib injury from a previous game was still bothering him".

His absence left a gaping hole on the blue line for Team Beast to exploit and this they did. With Team Beast captain Ron Pong's decision to put substitute defenseman Raymon Hsiao on the second forward line, a second dangerous line was formed to match that of Team Feast. Winger Tommy Wong netted two goals with his linemates, Terry Wong and Raymon Hsiao. Together they generated many great chances and more importantly, they got the puck in the net at least a few times.

However due to a "series of unfortunate events" in what would probably be considerred key turning points, Team Beast was not able to capitalize on their new found depth of strength. Two turnovers at Team Beast's own blue line on identical breakouts and a couple of botched gimme's in front of Team Feast's net was all the difference that was needed in the 12 - 8 loss.

It was heard that Team Beast defenseman Gordon Chan was seen lying face down, banging his hands on the ice and crying while the sounds of Raymon Hsiao yelling explicatives could be heard after missing two nearly wide open nets from close range.

Other notables include the return of Team Beast Captain Chris Archibald who was out with a foot injury. His play was good but when asked, he said that "he had been off the ice for too long and needed to get back into form."

Travis Wong abandoned his foward wing position and donned the goalie gear as regular goaltender Jay Estoque was absent. "He looked good in net" commented a few players on both sides as this was only his second time between the pipes in this league. Despite the eight goals that got by, he looked pretty smooth flopping around like a regular Hasek.

Opposing goalie Calvin Cheng looked more human than his normal self for Team Beast as he watched the puck go in 12 times. On Jason Lai's five goals, it seemed at times that all he had to do was just make contact with the round black piece of rubber and it was almost guaranteed to go in.

With the series sweep on the line next week, Team Beast has to make some changes. The halfway trade deadline is this week so let's see what Captain Ron Pong of Team Beast can do to turn things around. It's do or die.

MDHL STARS OF THE GAME
  Travis Wong
Stood up to the task and stopped a number of key shots when it counted. That's the kind of goalie you want. Many goalies stop the regular shots. It's the ones with the tangibles that are most valuable.
  Jason Lai
Just the third game back from his elbow injury but you wouldn't have known it. The coach has to like what he sees when his player(s) just get a shot on net and forget about the fancy plays.
  Terry Wong
Was agressive and had a great game chipping in a couple of goals on solid efforts. All in a losing cause unfortunately.
