Don't Rain on our (Pickleball) Parade

Some peeps got a jump on summer as the Mad Dogs held their 2nd annual team tournment on Fathers' Day weekend. Fielding an ATH 6 team roster with both new and familiar faces, our team captains were afforded the chance to draft some of their favourite players this time around.

Unfortunately, a shaky weather forecast made for some extra curve ball planning, hastily ending up in the Poirier Forum and shuttering our outdoor venue and BBQ plans. Nonetheless, a time limited tourney kicked off with a massive 5-round RR format and a 2-round final, making for 12 games of action for everyone. Lots of close battles and a few lopsided beat downs too, as killers and relative rookies were all thrown into the mix.

After the dust settled, and a few bodybag bounties were collected (by Gord and Jason, proud recipients of a new Selkirk Pro S1 ball), Team Red (Scarlet Smashers) bested Team Black (Black and Blue Bodybaggers) atop the standings, winning 4 x $25 GC prizes, while Team Grey (Mean Girls) outlasted Team White (Marshmallow Fluff) for third position. The battle for fifth spot ended in a tie, so a blind paddle challenge between team captains was needed afterwards and Team Blue (Don's Blue Balls) got the nod over Team Pink (BLACKPINK).

That's a wrap, with much gratitude to our post-venue host Cindy Chan, photographer Sherman Woo and all the kind volunteers who stepped up to make this event possible. Vincent and Jason hope to see you all again next time! xo
