Team G-Unit 14 vs. Team Murder Inc. 12 Friday, October 14, 2005
Finally a win in week 3 for the desperate G-Unit in spite of a rare no-show from Captain Pong who has yet to make an appearance this series... while in his own debut, Stan Quan wows the crowd by forgetting his shin pads and swimming on the ice while wearing his skate guards upon entry... as a result, he impromptly opts to ref the game and be a scorekeeper all at once... his Score Counting 101 skills need work but the final result was the correct one... the game kicked off with desperate hockey from G-Unit from the get-go, managing to hold off Murder Inc. for most of the night despite seeing their 8-4 lead shrink to a one goal game... Derek Lowe manages to get away with a few illegal high slapshots from the point while the referee was fumbling with the scoreclock, meanwhile said referee pulls up lame on a few offside and penalty calls letting Rich Chang get away with a tackle while Jason Lai gets the gate applying a marginal hook (mebbe the new "NHL" rules kicked in without anyone noticing?)... needless to say it made for a sweeter win as the intensity was high all night long... in other plays, Albert Chang takes advantage of the new MDHL rules (i.e. no red line) sending a sweet "Richard Park-like" breakaway pass resulting in a goal while Terry Wong needs a new skate sponsor (or else sharper blades) with the amount of falling on-ice... meanwhile acting captain Sean Oye performs admirably yet again, this time suiting up while playing above the legal alcohol limit... a new pre-game ritual perhaps? Goalie Norm Chan takes the loss while Shelby Lui continues his rookie series winning streak, include a few nice stops on sniper Anthony Chang in close.
