Team NinetyNine 10 vs. Team SixtySix 8 Friday, February 3, 2006
A barn burner. Superstar subs and another sub tying record of eight to make a new look team mostly on Team 99's bench with six of them... captain Anthony Chang made a then-questionable decline of a sub trade realignment in the pre-game and starting down 5-1 in the early stages didn't help... however, the gunners in this lineup were equal to the task... even in turning back a "kicked in" goal by Kevin Ma wasn't any cause for concern... too bad the heat of spirited play resulted in a spat of hotly contested penalties, as well as a (first time ever?) 5 on 3 power-play for Team 99 effectively taking the wind and momentum away from Team 66... even with a stacked D-corp and an exceptionally physical presence led by Travis Wong... in any case, it was a competitive match and tempers (passion?) were hot... resulting in a (league high?) six penalties overall... whlie crappy ice (who the @#! voted to cancel the cleaning) and new skates made Jason Lai trip over the blue line in a feeble attempt to clear the zone... Derek Lowe fulfilled a pre-game desire to score by picking off an offensive zone pass to skate in and score on a nice solo breakaway effort... overall the long game had a wearing effect on an otherwise stellar debut by goaltender Karen Chan in a losing cause... stay tuned for possible trades as the series reaches the midway mark…
