2006 SPRING SERIES: GAME #10 REVIEW

Team BIRETTA 8 vs. Team MAGNUM 5
Friday, June 23, 2006

A barn burner to end the series and the season as both teams square off with a looming shootout, should Team Beretta taste victory on this night… the battle was on, amidst another sub-o-rama as a handful of MDHL regulars played out their last game and start their summers early... and it looked promising for Team Beretta with subs Sean Oye and Allen Leung in the lineup... as well as the rookie debut and fine showing by John Janetka for Team Magnum lighting the lamp in his first MDHL game on a sweet passing play… only one penalty on this night as both captains are involved in the frantic play with Jason Lai getting the gate after sending Albert Chang sprawling at the blueline with a hook... only to result in a short-handed goal by Chris Archibald, the MDHL's record sharing 10 goal-in-one-game man... the score then stayed relatively close but a few controversial (and called back) goals by Team Magnum including a phantom offside call, and two thought-they-were-in plays deflated any momentum built up by Team Magnum... Lonny Wong continued his relentless effort and Sean Oye turned on the juice to ice the win and ensure a shootout… lighting up G Jason Zeidler in a rare sub debut (in the last game of the season no less).

Alas, the series finale was all on the line as each player stepped up to the plate based on the captains submissions for shooting orders... and most failed miserably... blame the ice or just the skills, but only Trevor Lai and Lonny Wong converted for Team Beretta, while Lawrence Lau and Chris Archibald did the same for Team Magnum, the latter scoring on the final shot converting a precious 2-pt goal for the series victory! Both teams played great all series long and have a summer to relax and rekindle the hockey fires in the fall. Have a great summer everyone!

MDHL STARS OF THE GAME
  Sean Oye
Started out mellow, but kicked it up a few notches to ensure a regulation victory.
  Steve Thauberger
D-man played a solid effort, which included the daunting task of neutralizing Sean.
  Chris Archibald
A rare sub appearance, but in fine form with a shorthanded goal and the series clinching shootout winner!
