Team Conservative 8 vs. Team Liberal 4 Friday, June 19, 2009
And so the thrilling, extended 15-game series concludes with Team Conservative winning the battle, but losing the war... another victory in their (almost) miracle stretch run only losing one game en route to tying up the series in this final game of the season… the pre-game extra ice session was sparsely attended (to the delight of the few that did show up)… actual game kicked off on pins and needles (for one team) as captain Frank Riccardi had a wardrobe malfunction needing to jet back to East Van for some missing shin pads… early play was touch and go as Team Liberal jumped out to 3-1 lead powered by the usual stellar play of Sean Oye… but again, those rolling energy lines starting to take over, amidst some strong netminding by Jason Zeidler in the early going… too bad Derek Lowe was flagged offside for more than a few stretch passes from his Liberal team mates… but the latter game was not in doubt and off to shootout to decide the series!
Team Liberal stategized on their shooting order, while Team Conservative rolled the dice with the default order (seemingly oblivious to the fact that the last two shootouts were won by teams that re-tooled their shooting order)… and it possibly came back to bite them, as their scorers (Albert, Calvin, Jason, Orson) were unable to match the opposition (Dave, Heiko, Jackson, Derek, Jim) particularly with goals from some unlikely sources tonight… and so Team Liberal won the shootout 5-4 with one shooter remaining and cap the series overall! A great series and hard fought from both sides… with nearly a full turnout for the post-game, series ending party at BP… pizza, beer and good times to wrap the year… kudos to all and have a great summer. See you in the fall!
