Team Rocks 17 vs. Team Babushka 6 Schlacking of the first degree for Team Babushka... Friday, January 31, 2003
Ouch. And so the series' first authentic butt-kicking was dished out at the expense of Team Babs. An unwelcome return for sub-in goalie Mike "what a way to spend my !@#$! vacation time" Burke as he takes the loss after many long seasons away from the MDHL. A reasonable excuse might be having played the entire game with a broken pinky finger, courtesy of one of his own team mates in the pre-game warmup. Is there a saboteur on that team or what?
Otherwise, the only bright spot on Team Babs was the stellar play of their captain Sean "carrying this team every night is hurting my lower back" Oye, who fired in multiple goals and was scary all game long. That included a rocket-like snapshot which riccoheted off team mate Sherman "Ping! ...dude, where's my car?" Woo's helmet... almost a free lobotomy if you look at it another way. During the onslaught, in desperation (perhaps), Babs' D Ron "just callin' em the way I see em" Pong attempts to call a penalty admist the action, forgetting that he wasn't a captain... just a pee-on player like the rest of 'em, only to have his call overruled. And the rout was on from there.
Most of Rocks' players were in on the scoring action all game long including their D with nearly everyone breaking out of any personal scoring slumps they may have held. Rocks' drop-in member Kevin "looking for a f/t contract with the big show" Mah demonstrates some solid offensive skills while goalie Mike "sure glad Sherman stopped that shot with his head for me" Smith was solid between the pipes as usual. Not the way that Babs' F Stan "this game sure ain't no damn birthday present!" Quan had in mind as he celebrated his 33rd birthday, but c'est la vie as the hockey gods would say.
MDHL 3 Stars:
3. Tyson Carvell... great job at center, including a highlight reel goal.
2. Sean Oye... deadly all night long, and the proof is embedded in Sherm's helmet.
1. Tom Ng... great job on D after a week's absence, including hitting the scoresheet with a goal from the point. |
