Team NEO 9 vs. Team MATRIX 8 OT Friday, March 4, 2011
Well that was a barn burner of a game. An epic comeback or a monumental collapse... depends on your point of view, but it was a good game throughout, and a highlight had to be the return of the pre-game sound system to set the stage. Regulars returned to the lineup, and none more grateful than Jason who was nursing his ailing back having missed the last 3 of 4 games, but thankful for the well wishes from both teams tonight. Team Matrix jumped to an early lead less than a minute after puck drop, but a counter attack found the score knotted at 2 apiece for a tight game. However. Team Matrix with yet another impressive game from their D-corps, moved forward to build a 5-goal lead with no response from Team Neo with less than 20 minutes remaining. Not willing to lose 7-2 (again), Team Neo put together some masterful captaining strategy on the fly, including a goalie swap, forward line juggling and a bit of desperate hockey to boot, they found themselves down by 2 with only minutes left and pulled the goalie for an extra strength goal. Down by 1 and a no-huddle face-off drop later, Team Neo surged forward with a buzzer beater goal by none other than the crease-master himself (Pete Choi), initially disputed, but indicated by the captains on ice, as well as an impartial call by the ice man, so sudden death was on tap. And it was none other than Sean Oye icing the comeback early in OT with a patented laser beam shot flying down the wing. Oh the drama.
