Team WHITE 6 vs. Team DARK 10 Friday, September 16, 2011
Yee ha. MDHL hockey returns to action in our season opener tonight with a full 20-skater renewal from last series, along with the full-time addition of Wayland Young between the pipes. Both teams skated (surprisingly) well considering the full summer just past, sprinkled with a few spectacular collisions for the highlight reel. Newly elected captains Peter Choi and Jackson Chiu lead Team Dark, while Frank Riccardi and Ray Chan lead Team White... in another fun tilt tonight, with a slightly extended warm-up and some sweet blaring tunes by The Cult and Van Halen. And what would a usual game be without the odd suspect penalty call and chirping from both benches, but a 4 penalty to none ratio were enough to raise a few eyebrows it appeared. Nonetheless, Team Dark took it to the opposition, racking up 10 goals for, thanks in huge part to perennial MVP Sean Oye and some nifty play-making, while Team White were kept busy all night long with just a 3-defencemen rotation and looking for their forward lines to convert on some great chances. Either way, it looks to be an entertaining series as the weeks unfold.
